What Size Rug Is Suitable For A Study Room?

A rug that fills your space but doesn't overwhelm your room is key when selecting the right rug for your home study. If you want a large area rug that acts as a carpet for your space, leave 18 inches between the rug and the wall for the most cohesive look. A rug touching each wall will make the room feel smaller. Runners can also be used to categorize or divide your space. Suppose you decide on runners, measure, and plan out the placement carefully. If you want your desk to be the centre of attention, highlight it by choosing a rug that comfortably fits the desk and chair entirely pulled out on top of it.

Consider Functionality

The most important thing about a home study is that it's a comfortable place to get work completed. The rug needs to accommodate moving furniture like a rolling chair. Low-pile rugs are best if you have furniture that needs to glide across the floor easily.

Consider Placement

Rug placement helps pull together your room and make it feel organised. There are many options to choose from, such as one large area rug or smaller rugs to highlight specific areas of the room. A desk is typically the centre of a study, so it is always a great place to anchor a rug. Aforementioned, runners are another great option if you're looking to divide a room into separate areas.

Considering Style

Every individual has their own favourite style. Some people like modern and sleek workspaces, and if that is the case for you, you might consider a contemporary style rug. They are typically muted or solid in colour and perfectly fit a modern aesthetic. You can also choose muted prints if you want an additional design, and with it being muted, it won't clash with other decors in your office. A farmhouse-style rug can be a great addition if you like a rustic feel for your workspace. These rugs are softly coloured, often blue, green, or grey. If you want a more traditional office feel, an oriental or Persian rug can be elegant and executive. They provide the space with beautiful patterns, whether floral or geometric, and bring a global sense to a room. These rugs will compliment darker tones in an office with rich wood.
