Washable rugs for everyday living

A washable rug can make routine cleaning more manageable in a busy home. Compare patterns and sizes for your living room, hallway or children's room, then check the washing instructions for the exact rug and size before ordering.

Three checks before you buy

1. Read the care label: confirm whether the complete rug is machine washable, which cycle and detergent are specified, and how it must be dried.
2. Check machine capacity: compare the rug manufacturer's requirements with your washing machine's capacity and instructions. Do not force a large rug into a drum or guess capacity from floor dimensions alone.
3. Plan drying space: confirm you can dry the rug fully using the permitted method. Do not tumble dry unless the label explicitly allows it.

Everyday cleaning between washes

Remove loose debris using the cleaning method on the care label. Deal with spills promptly by blotting rather than rubbing, and check which cleaning products are permitted. Washing is only one part of care; let the rug and its backing dry fully before returning it to the floor.

Neither washability nor synthetic fibres guarantee that every stain, odour or pet accident will come out. If the product page does not answer a capacity or care question, contact us with the rug name and size before ordering.

Washable rug questions

Are all washable rugs machine washable?

Not necessarily. Check the exact product's instructions for the permitted cleaning method. The machine capacity and drying method also need to suit your selected size.

Can I put my washable rug in a dryer?

Only if its care label explicitly permits it, using the specified settings. Do not assume dryer suitability from the word washable.

Are washable rugs pet-proof?

No rug is pet-proof. Washability may help with cleaning, but scratching, chewing and accidents can still damage fibres or backing. Choose for your pet's habits and follow the rug's care label.

Do I need an underlay?

Check the rug's backing and your floor manufacturer's requirements. Choose a compatible underlay if needed to help reduce movement; do not assume every washable rug has a non-slip backing.
