How to choose a large rug for your room

Start with your furniture layout, then compare exact rug dimensions. Mark the outline on the floor before ordering, leaving space for doors and the routes you walk through the room.

• Living rooms: measure the seating area and decide whether you want the front legs or all legs of the sofa and chairs on the rug. Compare the marked outline with the furniture in place, including the chaise on an L-shaped sofa.
• Bedrooms: measure the bed frame, rather than relying only on the mattress size. Decide whether bedside tables will sit on the rug and how much rug you want beside and beyond the bed.
• Dining rooms: allow roughly 60–80cm beyond each side of the table as a starting point, then pull the chairs out to check that their legs stay on the rug. For example, a 200 × 100cm table with 75cm on each side needs a 350 × 250cm rug footprint. Check that this also fits your room.

Compare size options such as 300 × 200cm, 320 × 230cm, 350 × 250cm and 400 × 300cm using the exact-size filter. Available sizes vary by design.
