What are Entryway Rugs?

An entryway rug is the first thing you see when you come home. Their purpose is to protect your floors while adding a decorative touch to your home. These rugs come in three categories: doormats, runners, and area rugs. 

Is a Doormat Rug for you?

Doormat rugs range in size from 75x45cm to 90x60cm. They are durable but slightly less decorative than runners and area rugs. These rugs are mainly used as a place to wipe your shoes before entering the home and are a practical way to keep your floors clean. A doormat rug may be a good option if you have a narrow entryway.

Is a Runner Rug for you?

Runners are long and narrow, so this is an excellent option if your entryway is long and narrow. Runner rugs come in many sizes, so you need to measure your space before purchasing. To get a runner that's a perfect fit for your space, a general rule is to choose a rug that allows for four to six inches of bare floor space on all sides of the rug.

Is an Area Rug for you?

An area rug is a rug that covers a large area. If your entryway is a vast space, this is a good option for you. Typically you'll want to go for a rectangular rug, but there are some instances where a circular rug will fit well, such as if you have a rounded wall or curved staircase. If you have a small entryway, you could choose a small area rug to place directly in front of the door or a medium area rug extending into the space. If you have a large foyer that feels undefined, you may want a large area rug to bring some cohesiveness to the room.

The best material for an entryway rug is a durable one. Wool, polypropylene, and jute are all durable options to consider. Polypropylene rugs are the most durable of the rugs, and they maintain their colour over time and are easy to clean.
